A flood-warning is in effect for St. Vincent and the Grenadines until 6:00pm today August 30, 2017.

A flood-warning means that some flooding is already occurring or is likely to occur.

The Barbados Meteorological Services said in an advisory that the flood-warning was effective as of 12:00 Noon today.

It said the combination of the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone and a mid-level trough system has been generating cloudy to overcast skies, pockets of moderate to heavy showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms across St. Vincent and the Grenadines during the morning.

Flash-flooding is already occurring in some areas in this case, on the Grenadine Island of Bequia.

As a consequence, a Flood–Warning has been issued and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm this evening.

Residents in the Grenadines, especially in Bequia are asked to exercise caution as already saturated soils and blocked drains can result in landslides and flooding once heavy rains continue.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) is also advising persons to closely monitor Tropical Storm Irma which was formed in the Atlantic this morning, as an unusual trajectory is already forecasted.

We are now in the peak of the hurricane season therefore NEMO is urging all residents to be prepared.

Mr. Billy Jeffers, Manager at the Argyle International Airport Meteorological Services said the Barbados Meteorological Services and the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Services will continue to monitor this system and provide the necessary updates.
