Embattled Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter could end nearly a year and a half of inactivity this weekend when he leads a MVP men’s 4x100m relay team at the 39th Milo Western Relays at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall.

News broke yesterday that Carter, who was found guilty of using a banned stimulant at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and had his 4x100metre gold medal stripped, is free to run, the IAAF has reportedly told the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).

Carter is free to compete pending the outcome of an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), a letter from the IAAF said, as he has not been suspended following the retroactive testing of his sample from 2008.

The letter to the JAAA from the IAAF is reported to have said “it appears Mr Carter is not provisionally suspended and is eligible to compete in athletics competition, pending the CAS procedure”.

Jamaica’s athletics boss, Dr. Warren Blake, told the Jamaica Observer last night that he was informed by the IAAF that Carter’s fate in his appeal to the CAS will be known soon.
