West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has been fined 10,000 Australian dollars by the Melbourne Renegades Twenty20 team for asking an Australian TV reporter out on a date and directing personal comments at her during a televised pitch side interview.
Gayle had earlier suggested Monday’s incident was a “simple joke” that had been “blown out of proportion” and apologized, but the Renegades acted after widespread condemnation of the incident.

“Chris’s comments were completely inappropriate and disrespectful. There is simply no place for these type of comments at the Melbourne Renegades,” Chief Executive Stuart Coventry said in a team statement.

Meanwhile, an Indian teenager scored more than 1,000 runs in a single innings to set a new world record in school cricket.

Fifteen-year-old Pranav Dhanawade broke the previous record of 628 set by Arthur Collins in 1899 on Monday, but continued his innings in the HT Bhandari Cup inter-school tournament and reached 1,009 runs, having smashed 59 sixes and 127 fours in 395 minutes before his KC Gandhi School declared the innings at 1,465 yesterday.
