A visiting Cannabis expert from Canada, Marc Emery, believes that arrests for possession of marijuana in St. Lucia should stop and has warned that tourists who are accustomed to having legal access to cannabis will go elsewhere.

“Let’s stop the arrests,” he stated.

Emery was part of a delegation that met Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and other members of cabinet on Monday to discuss legalizing marijuana.

“I have been in 39 jails in the United States and Canada for my cannabis activism,” he told a news conference yesterday.

“I have sold cannabis, I have grown cannabis and I have broken the law – proudly, for 30 years and I spent 6 years in prison for doing that,” the Canadian national declared.

Emery said Prime Minister Chastanet was very gracious at Monday’s meeting, where cabinet members asked questions about the cannabis situation in Canada currently.
