Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Saboto Caesar is appealing to financial institutions here, to provide more support to local fisher folk.
Minister Caesar made the comment while addressing the prize giving ceremony at the Kingstown Fish Market on Monday during which Randolph Medford, the captain of the boat Elijah, walked away with the fisherman of the year title.
During his address – the Minister spoke about the transformation that has occurred within the fisheries sector in recent years.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves highlighted the significance of the fisherman’s day activities theme.
Randolph Medford was adjudged the overall winner of this year’s competition, after landing the heaviest catch of 470 pounds of fish.
