Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, Luke Browne, said the drug prevention of misuse and amendment bill is an indication of the Government’s commitment, towards the development if a medicinal cannabis industry in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister Browne made the comment during his contribution in Parliament yesterday.

He said the country has come a long way, in developing the industry.

The Drug Prevention of misuse and amendment bill was one of five bills passed during yesterday’s sitting of parliament.

The bill – tabled by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, outlined the legal framework governing the cultivation and use, of cannabis in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, was also intended to facilitate reform, in the laws relating to cannabis.

In debating the bill, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, said it addressed the issue, of the possession of less than two ounces of cannabis, as well as the issue of smoking in public.

He said the bill still has to be regulated as persons ought to be mindful of the effects of the use and harmful effects of the misuse of the drug.

The other bills passed during yesterday’s sitting were the finance bill 2019, as well as the pension declaration bills for Edford Davis, Cecelia Cupid and Garfield Jack..

Parliament has been adjourned until August 22nd 2019 at 10 a.m.
