The Vessel with goods for the British Virgin Islands (BVI) is expected to leave here on Wednesday September 20th, 2017.

The vessel, which had departed Port Kingstown for Tortola and Virgin Gorda, late on Friday night, was forced to return to Port Kingstown on the weekend due to adverse weather conditions on route resulting from Hurricane Maria, which struck the Leeward Islands on Monday, causing massive devastation in Dominica.

The vessel was transporting relief supplies including water, tarpaulin, cots, lumber, water and food items, among other things.

Speaking at a ceremony on Wednesday morning at the National Insurance Services (NIS) Conference Room, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said he expects that the vessel will be able to leave here today.

Dr. Gonsalves said arrangements will also be made to have a vessel to transport similar relief items to Dominica.

Meanwhile, persons who wish to send supplies to their families, relatives and friends in Tortola and Virgin Gorda are asked to note that they can take these supplies to the Geest Shed in Kingstown by 6:00pm, this evening, Wednesday September 20, to be loaded on the barge.
