Bahamas is seeking to become the third Caribbean Community (CARICOM) country to be elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
According to Caribbean News Service – a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Nassau had supported St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the single, non-permanent seat open to the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) for the biennium 2020-2021.
It says the Bahamas has put forward its bid for membership on the Security Council for the biennium 2032-2033, election for which would be in 2031.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines earlier this month became the smallest island ever to be elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council after defeating El Salvador.
Jamaica was the first CARICOM country elected to the position.
