The Regional Project for Implementing Biosafety Frameworks is conducting a Workshop on “Socio-economic Considerations in Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) Decision Making” at the Sunset Shores Hotel in Villa.

The November 23rd to 25th, workshop begins at 9:00am daily, and is designed to familiarize participants with key aspects of socio-economic considerations and to make them aware of the requirements, options and constraints of considering socioeconomic aspects in GMO policy-making.

It will bring together participants from 12 CARICOM Member States which are participating in the Regional Biosafety Project for which the University of the West Indies (UWI) is the lead executing agency.

The overall goal of the project is to implement effective, operable, transparent and sustainable National Biosafety Frameworks which cater for national and regional needs, deliver global benefits, and are compliant with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.
