The government has submitted a Bill to Parliament to regulate the attendance of Members of Parliament (MPS) in the House of Assembly.

The Bill will allow the Government to withhold or deduct the salaries of MPs who do not have a valid reason for not attending and taking part in sittings of the House of Assembly.

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Ralph Gonsalves tabled the Bill last night following the wrap-up of the presentation of the 2016 Budget.

Dr. Gonsalves said he intends to put the bill to a select committee and will allow opportunities for the public to discuss it.

The Prime Minister had previously indicated that if the matter is not dealt with, the government would be paying persons for not doing what they have sworn to do.
