Days after police in Trinidad were alerted to a planned gun attack at the Chaguanas North Secondary School, 24 pupils, many with criminal records and matters before the courts, have been removed from the school.

Minister of Education Anthony Garcia announced the decision yesterday following a meeting with the school staff and pupil body.

On Friday, a teacher was alerted to the impending attack, which led to the early dismissal of classes and an increase in security measures. Police were temporarily placed at the school, while security guards have been conducting body scans and searches.

Yesterday, Garcia and a team of officials from the Ministry of Education, including Minister Dr. Lovell Francis, as well as National Security Minister Edmund Dillon and representatives from the Ministry of Social Development, met with the school principal to discuss indiscipline at the school and determine a way forward.
