The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) will be hosting its annual Teachers’ Solidarity March and Rally this afternoon.

The march takes place from 2:00pm at the Peace memorial Hall in Kingstown. It will end at the Bishop College Hard Court where a Rally will be held.

This is one of several activities organized for Teachers Solidarity Week 2017, which is being celebrated under the theme: “Defending Workers’ Rights: An Imperative for a Democratic and Progressive Society”.

First Vice President of the SVGTU, Mr. Vibert Lampkin said the Union decided to stage this year’s rally at the Bishop College Hard Court, in a bid to highlight to younger teachers, what would have transpired in November, 1975, during the Teachers’ Union’s historic struggle when teachers gathered at Bishop College Kingstown after being tear gassed during a Strike.

He said the featured speaker will be Pastor Adolf Davis.

Mr. Lampkin said the Teacher’s Solidarity Week activities will conclude tomorrow November 18, with a Teachers Fun Day at Rawacou Beach from 10 in the morning.
